MALAKAND – An elderly man was arrested for marrying a minor girl in Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
An employee of JUI-F shared the details and a video of the girl involved in the incident on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.
The 13-year-old girl, while speaking in Pashto language in the video, says that she returned from school that day and was congratulated by her family members. “I started crying when I was told that a 70-year-old man was going to marry her,” the victim said
However, locals noticed the incident and made it viral on social media, prompting police to arrest the elderly groom, Nikkah Khawan and witnesses.
According to reports, the groom, identified as Hanifa, had paid Rs 1 million to the girl’s family for the marriage.
The police official announced the arrests of the groom, the girl’s father, and other suspects in the case. An investigation into the matter has been initiated as well.
