Iran launched an attack on Israel using dozens of drones & missiles, according to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The IRGC said it dropped the drones & missiles as part of Operation True Promise, adding that the move was part of punishment for “Israeli crimes.”
“Iran has launched an air attack against Israel,” US National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson said on Saturday. “The United States will stand with the Israeli people & support their defense against these Iranian threats. »
The Syrian army remains on alert while Iraq, Jordan & Israel have announced that they have closed their airspace.
Earlier in the day, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard seized a Portuguese-flagged cargo ship with connections to Israel in the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route.
Tensions between Iran & Israel have escalated since the Gaza war began in October, & particularly in recent weeks after Israel carried out an attack on its consulate in Damascus on April 1.
Iranian leaders, including Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, had previously pledged to retaliate against Israel following the Damascus attack & Israel, in turn, threatened to launch its own counterattack. Israel has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement in the Damascus attack.
